The people of VibSpec

Drs. P. (Peter) de Peinder (email)

Peter de Peinder (1967) studied Chemistry, Major Biochemistry, at Utrecht University and became subsequently member of the Vibrational Spectroscopy department as a junior scientist. He joined Philips Electronics B.V. in 1999 and became senior scientist at the Material Analysis department of Philips Research. From 2000-2004 he was part-time scientist at Utrecht University. During this period he was tutor on several Infrared & Raman courses at Universities in Holland, the UK and Iran, and at several industrial sites. His main interest at the moment is (surface) enhanced IR and Raman spectroscopy and multivariate data analysis.
In 2004 he founded VibSpec in collaboration with professor van der Maas to continue the courses previously run by Utrecht University, and to meet the demands as regards training, software and consultancy services in the field of Vibrational Spectroscopy. August 2006 he left Philips Research and he fully focussed on his activities for VibSpec. He is a board member of the Dutch Infrared & Raman Discussion Group.
Since 2008 he is also a boardmember of the Section Analytical Chemistry (SAC) of the Dutch Royal Chemical Society (KNCV).

Prof. Dr. J. (Joop NL /John UK) H. van der Maas (email)

Professor Joop H. van der Maas (1936) studied chemistry at Utrecht University and subsequently carried out research in infrared spectroscopy. He became leader of the Infrared and Raman Group in 1962, obtained his doctors degree in 1965 and was appointed full professor of Spectrochemical Analysis in 1980. He was head of the department of Vibrational Spectroscopy until October 2001, when he retired and became Emeritus Professor. Research in the field of infrared was focused on functional group analysis, hydrogen bonding, surface studies, computer supported information acquisition, and the development of new techniques.
He is (co-)author of more than 200 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, author of the book "Basic Infrared Spectroscopy" (1969), one of the editors of "Laboratory Methods in Vibrational Spectroscopy" (1987). Also he designed and edited “The Interpretation of Infrared Spectra”, an audio-visual course in 8 lessons. He is founder (1990) and Editor of Vibrational Spectroscopy (an Elsevier journal), and he is on the Editorial Board of Material Science, an Interdisciplinary Journal of Physics, Chemistry and Technology of Materials. He served on the board of several Organising Committees of International Conferences in the field of Molecular Spectroscopy, in particular Vibrational Spectroscopy. He lectured as of the start in 1965 at the Annual International Infrared Course at Utrecht University. Also he was and is lecturer at several Courses on Vibrational Spectroscopy in the UK, USA, Norway, Iran and other countries. He is a member of the Dutch Royal Society of Chemistry, the Society for Applied Spectroscopy, and Honorary Member of the Infrared and Raman Group, UK.
